I was very excited to be given the opportunity to try this..I LOVE tea almost as much as I love coffee. I like to have fun trying new flavors and tea varieties, so this was right up my alley!
KissMe Organics has put so much care into this tea..you can tell from the moment you receive your package! It comes in the CUTEST little tin, that I will be SURE to re-purpose as soon as I finish my tea…which honestly shouldn’t take long!
I didn’t know much about Matcha tea, so I hopped over to Wikipedia…and learned that this is some amazingly high-quality stuff! Here’s what I learned:
Matcha, also spelled maccha, refers to finely milled or fine powder green tea. The Japanese tea ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha. In modern times, matcha has also come to be used to flavour and dye foods such as mochi and soba noodles, green tea ice cream and a variety of wagashi (Japanese confectionery). Matcha is a fine-ground, powdered, high-quality green tea and not the same as konacha.
Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves also used to make gyokuro. The preparation of matcha starts several weeks before harvest and can last up to 20 days, when the tea bushes are covered to prevent direct sunlight. This slows down growth, stimulates an increase in chlorophyll levels, turns the leaves a darker shade of green, and causes the production of amino acids, in particular L-Theanine. Only the finest tea buds are hand-picked. After harvesting, if the leaves are rolled out before drying as usual, the result will be gyokuro (jade dew) tea. However, if the leaves are laid out flat to dry, they will crumble somewhat and become known as tencha. Tencha can then be de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone-ground to the fine, bright green, talc-like powder known as matcha.
It can take up to one hour to grind 30 grams of matcha.
Note that only ground tencha qualifies as matcha, and other powdered green teas, such as powdered sencha, are known as konacha.
The flavour of matcha is dominated by its amino acids. The highest grades of matcha have more intense sweetness and deeper flavour than the standard or coarser grades of tea harvested later in the year.
So…now that you know all of that…this is a VERY high-quality matcha! It’s an Energy powerhouse, natural mood enhancer, & mental focus booster, too! It has the most amazing flavors to it. You don’t ‘steep’ it like regular tea..you boil the water, add it to the tea powder in your cup (or, be cool like the japanse and enjoy in a bowl like the photo)…then you whisk it in a zigzag pattern until it’s just right. Be sure to drink it hot, though! The flavors are much better than if you let it get cold..I have a tendency to leave my drink in another room and forget about it for hours. Yay for microwaves! Haha
So…if you’re looking for a high-quality matcha, or just a new variety of tea to try, I encourage you to check out this tea from KissMe Organics! You won’t be disappointed! It’s on sale right now on Amazon for only $28.00! Click here to buy!
As always, stay beautiful and think divergently!
